Charles Michael Palahniuk, nicknamed Chuck, was born on February 21, 1962, in Pasco Washington. Chuck is an American novelist who studied at the University Of Oregon School Of Journalism, graduated in 1986, and worked for a local newspaper before leaving and working as a diesel mechanic for Freightliner. Later on, he found a job as a journalist before attending a seminar held by an organization by the name of Landmark Education, after which he quit and began volunteering at a homeless shelter. He eventually began working as an escort at a hospice, a place where terminally ill individuals are treated, and helped escort these individuals to support groups, somewhat showing why the main character in Fight Club found so much relief in attending these different support groups.
Chuck's first novel, Invisible Monsters, was rejected to be published due to its disturbing content. In an attempt to disturb the publisher even more, he began writing Fight Club with the sole purpose of making it very disturbing. However, upon showing to the publisher, it was published which he did not expect at all. The book was later turned into a movie that became popular after it was released as a DVD.
Fight Club has received the following awards
1997 Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award
1997 Oregon Book Award for Best Novel
